i know, like, nobody plays it, but SAO: Fatal Bullet is a really good fucking game. and this is coming from a person who plays farming and lifestyle rpg games like MTAP and ACNH and Stardew Valley and that shit.

it's a 3rd person shooting game based off the VRMMO seed that Sword Art Online was created of (in the anime and manga) and GGO is a gun based VR world, where the MC levels up as he/she progresses through the world. when they first join, Kureha, the MC's best childhood friend, takes them into a competition for a superb rare item, which ends up being an ArFA-sys Type-X, which is a rare android to the game and a key to get inside the Flügel, where the android originated from.

while progressing with the storyline, you befriend all of Kirito's friends from SAO, along with Itsuki and Zeliska, two of the top ranking characters. when you raise your affinity ranks with them, you go on mini-sub quests with them and grow closer, while having the ability to "date" Itsuki and another player, Eiji.

overall, i've been playing this game on my switch for almost a week, and i'm about halfway through the first storyline (there's three in total i believe) and i would highly recommend it to anyone who has a liking to anime themed games or likes the chilled out games because there's so timeline to when you need to get the quests done.

DAY 1450) Sword Art Online: Fatal Bullet - Dungeon 1

The actual time signature you'd write on sheet music for this is just 4/4 all the way through, but the amount of polyrhythms/polymeter here is pretty crazy.

0:14 - 0:28 has strings going in 6 triplet beats, while that sharper buzzing synth is doing a loop of 5 triplet beats. Which makes that section 3-way polyrhythmic between the 4/4 pulse, the "5 triplet beats" and the "6 triplet beats"

That looping pattern of 5 triplets on that harsher synth sound actually continues uninterrupted through the entire portion of 0:14 - 2:31.

0:28 - 0:41 (& 1:57 - 2:24) has a new layer that's kind of rhythmically playful, though not really "mixed meter" or polymetric to everything else, it definitely creates the FEEL of it. The grouping is 7+7+6+6+6 which adds up to 32 in the end so it lines up with the 4/4.

1:08 - 1:36 has the string part immediately jump to hammering those groups of 5 triplets, though it doesn't follow a consistent group of 5 the way that persistent synth layer does. It's more like 5+[a loop of 5+5+5+5+4]. a kind of interesting aspect of that is how the group of 4 omits the first note in the grouping, makes it even harder to follow!

1:08 - 1:22 has a softer synth sound that's just doing a repeating group of 5 triplets through the whole thing.

1:22 - 1:36 on that same softer synth sound has it going (in 16th notes) [6+6+6]+[6+6]+[6+6+6]x4+[6+6+6+6]. I guess essentially 9/8 + 6/8 + 9/8x4 + 12/8, layered as mixed meter polymeter on top of...a pulse that is entirely triplets (in groups of 5) at the time haha, with no clear 4/4 pulse even if it lines up that way. Definitely the craziest section of the track.

1:36 - 1:56 has the strings just transition into more standard groups of 3 triplets and eventually settles into the hits on 1&3 in the kick drum only as a complete contrast from the climax of rhythmic insanity that just happened. That persistent harsher buzzing synth still continues with the repeating pattern of 5 triplets though, as does the softer synth (until 1:50, where it just does a group of 4 quarter notes notes solidifying the contrasting simplicity there!)

This is an absolutely insane track imo, one of my favorite pieces of video game music ever, so I hope I didn't miss anything I intended to point out, and hope this is way of explaining it all out is reasonably possible to follow/understand!
